Just as it is impossible to get clothes to fit perfectly just by measuring your inside leg, a language course is much the same. Like a tailor-made suit, a custom-built course must exactly match a student's needs and give long-lived benefits.
For Pierre Sponselee, Director of Housing Association Woonwaard, the short and intensive English course he took with PCI did just that. Woonwaard works to ensure there is suitable housing for everyone in the Noord-Kennemerland region in and around Alkmaar. It works in partnership with numerous town councils and other housing associations to provide homes to rent and shared ownership for those on the waiting list.
As part of an effort to exchange knowledge, Woonwaard is in regular contact with a similar organisation in Alkmaar's twin town in the UK, Bath. They also meet about once a year, so Pierre felt it was important to be able to communicate more effectively with his counterparts in the UK.
"The purpose of this course was really twofold," explains Pierre.
"Not only did I want to improve my English, I also needed to get up to speed with the terminology of housing and social services."
"Altogether, I'm very positive about the way PCI and the teacher managed to tailor the English course to suit my needs," says Pierre.
